William Murdoch – Mom’s Grandfather died in 1893.
Born in 1828, he married Margaret Green of Ochiltree in 1850, sailed to Canada in 1854, arrived in 1855.
William’s older brother (father?), John (1802 – 1855) , had come to Canada earlier, married to Mary Caldwell (1804 – 1886) before he left Scotland, but died of cholera the day he arrived in Canada (see John’s family notes on next page).
John had built a home in Galt, Ontario, in which the rest of the family (William, wife and children) stayed until they had bought land and built their own homes.
William was a stone mason and worked his farm. He built many homes including their own and one in Lucknow on Ross Street and John bought it in 1894 and called it “The Maples”. The family home was called “Burnside Farm:. Their first home was in North Dumfries, Waterloo County in the township of Ashfield in 1860.
- John, the first son, died and was buried at sea on the way to Canada.
- Margaret, (Maggie), the first daughter, born in 1855, married Andrew Dryden.
- John G., the second son, was born in 1858.
- Mary, the second daughter was born in 1860, married Robert D. Cameron and died in 1892.
- William, the third son was born at Paramount in 1862.
- Robert, the fourth son was born in 1865 and was also born at Paramount.
- Martha (Mattie), the third daughter was born in 1868 and married W. Macklin.
- Elizabeth, (Lizzie) the fourth daughter, was born in 1871 and married W. Macklin.
- Alexander, (Alex or Al), the fifth son, was born in 1874.
- Walter, the sixth son, was born in 1876.
- Lovell, the seventh son and the last child, was born in 1881.
John Murdoch (1802 – 1855 ), Mom’s great-grandfather, married Mary Caldwell (1804 – 1886) but died of cholera on arrival in Canada.
He arrived in Canada in 1855 from New Cumnock, Ayrshire Country, Scotland with his children:

The Murdochs came from New Cumnock, Ayrshire, Scotland in 1855 travelling 13 weeks on board ship
John, Mom’s great-grandfather died of cholera on the day they arrived in Hamilton. The family moved to King’s Bush in Huron County to take up land and make their homes.
