Ayrshire Charity is Branching OutAyrshire Cancer Support is embarking on an ambitious project to help create a natural Scottish woodland in Ayrshire, returning the land to way it was many years ago, and they are giving everyone the chance to be part of the project by purchasing their own tree. All revenue received by Ayrshire Cancer Support for each tree dedicated will be used in Ayrshire for the benefit of cancer patients and their families. The charity is offering individuals, schools and companies the opportunity to plant a tree to celebrate any event or occasion, it could be a birth, wedding anniversary, a project to help our environment or as a unique and personal gift to a loved one. Beside each dedicated tree there will be a plaque with the purchaser’s personal message engraved on it, they will also receive a certificate showing the message and a map showing the location of the tree. The site of the woodland has been created at Craig’s Farm Estate near New Cumnock. The Afton Water flows through this secluded valley which lies on the Burns trail only about a mile from the beautiful Burns Cairn established by New Cumnock Burns Club. There is a beautiful picnic area situated near the Cairn beside the Afton Water, where you can take a break and experience the tranquillity of the area. Overlooking the planting area is the rocky outcrop called ‘Castle William’ where it is reputed that William Wallace had a residence. Only tree species which have historically been on the land will be planted and will include Scots Pine, Silver Birch, Willow and Rowan. John Beck said ‘ We are pleased to be involved in a project which will help our precious Ayrshire environment and at the same raise funds for our invaluable work. Trees are a vital element in the fight against global warming and this type of natural Scottish woodland will encourage a great variety of wildlife to the area. Trees are a lasting legacy that will live on for future generations and every tree planted will be a personal contribution to a better tomorrow. Purchasing a tree to mark a family event or occasion will be a truly unique gift, it is also an ideal opportunity for groups of friends, work colleagues, schoolchildren and students to club together to support our work. They could even plant a tree instead of sending Christmas cards to each other, the list is endless.’ For more details visit the charity’s new website at www.ayrshirewoodland.org or call John at 01563 538008. |
